PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Verify the gold / silver / platinum content in items.

Touchstone testing is based on the fact that 24k gold resists all but the strongest acids. The purer the gold, the stronger the acid required to dissolve it.

Measured strengths of nitric acid are used to test for 14k and lower.

Aqua regia, a mixture of one part nitric acid and three parts hydrochloric acid, is used to test higher karat purity through the process of comparison and elimination.

If the sample disappears, then the item is below the karat of the solution.

This solution works for testing any gold which you believe to be 10K, 14K, 18K, 22-24K, Silver, and pure Platinum.

Rub the black stone, and leave a small sample on the stone,
Apply a drop of acid on to the stone; real gold will stay on the touchstone, false gold will be dissolved or oxidized to blue.
